AbstractLike all African countries, Sudan as a nation state, is an imposition of the colonial imagination; a process that gathered diverse ethnic groups, often with little in common among themselves, under the banner of one unity. The diversity of Sudan’s population is highlighted by the sheer number of languages, 160 or so, spoken within its national boundaries.
